Original Poem in Arabic
أَيا قَلبي أَما تَخشَع
وَيا عِلمي أَما تَنفَع
أَما حَقّي بِأَن أَنظُ
رَ لِلدُنيا وَما تَصنَع
أَما شَيَّعتُ أَمثالي
إِلى ضيقٍ مِنَ المَضجَع
أَما أَعلَمُ أَن لا بُد
دَ لي مِن ذالِكَ المَصرَع
أَيا غَوَثاهُ بِاللا
هِ هَذا الأَمرُ ما أَفظَع
Translation
O my heart, do you not fear?
And O my knowledge, will you not benefit?
Is it not my right to observe
What the world does and how it unfolds?
Have I not already escorted many like myself
To the narrowness of the grave?
Do I not know that it is inevitable for me
To meet that same end?
O, how I call for help from God,
This matter is truly terrifying!
